This one was a fun job. The customer had an open carport - covered roof, but nothing closing it in. No security, no weather protection, just an open bay. Up in the Santa Cruz Mountains, where moisture and wildlife are very much part of daily life, that's a real problem.
We framed in the opening and installed a modern insulated steel door - all in a single day. The door itself is clean and contemporary, with four horizontal frosted windows across the top panel. It fits the home's existing look without feeling out of place.
Insulated steel doors are worth talking about for a second. They're not just about looks. The insulation helps regulate temperature inside the garage, which matters a lot if you're using the space for storage, a workshop, or parking. Steel construction means low maintenance and real durability - especially important in a forested mountain environment where wood can take a beating from moisture and pests.
Framing in a carport opening and fitting a door correctly takes precision. The rough opening has to be square, the framing has to be solid, and the door has to seal properly all the way around. Skip any of those steps and you end up with gaps, drafts, and a door that won't function right long-term. We don't cut corners on the structural side of a job like this.
What the customer ended up with is a fully enclosed, secure garage - completely changed from what they started with. The whole exterior of the home looks more finished and intentional now. It's a solid upgrade in both function and curb appeal.
